The Worst Album Covers Ever!: 'Carpet Square' by Sharron L. Lucky

Artist ~ Sharron L. Lucky
Title ~ Carpet Square

Cover notes do little to explain this bizarre album -
"The stimulation of the student's creativity is a feature of
'Carpet Square'. Standing on carpet square (nap down),
student does twisting motion which propels him across
the floor... Shag carpet is not recommended."

Okay. Is it just me, or does this activity seem like something that would be done with "special" children only? I mean, all they do is stand on a square of carpet (Nap DOWN!) and twist. But none of those kids on the cover look "special" to me. Except for, maybe, that black boy in the center of the group... he does look a bit vacant, or something. Whatever the case, most of them look like they're having a total blast!

And, at the end of the day, isn't that what really matters?

  1. I think those kids belong on the Barney show. Remember the purple dorky dinosaur? The worst kid actors I have ever seen in my life....and my son HAD to watch the show everyday! Bad, bad album cover. More like Carpet SQUARES.

  2. Oh, gawd! You're so right about Barney, Midcenturymadam!

Those kids on his show, yikes! You'd think the casting director must have had each kid labotomized, judging by their performances. And that gross theme song, "I love you, you love me, we're a happy family..." Yuck, just YUCK!

Btw, did you see that young lady trying-out for American Idol (a week or so ago) who used to be one of "those" Barney kids? She walked into the audition dressed like a dominatrix, and cracked her big whip! :)

  3. I think the kids are supposed to twist to propel the carpet square forward along the floor. I'd love to try this!
Not sure whether the activity needs an entire album though.

  4. Sure, MoonDoggie, scooting across the floor on a carpet square might be fun for about 30 seconds... Then what?!

I, too, cannot imagine the need for an entire album, but I'd sure love to hear it! I want to know what sort of funky music is provided for the children to twist their squares to! And I'd love to know if there's actual voice instruction accompanying the music!

  6. The next time I'm around someone who's cranky and needs a nap, I'm going to say, "Nap DOWN." And MidCenturyMadam is absolutely right about the Barney kids similarity, I was thinking that even before I saw her comment. Those kids are TOO OLD to be that thrilled about Carpet Square. But if presented with a carpet square and a slippery floor, I would TOTALLY try it.

  7. Okay, Heidi, I'm ready with my heavy-duty scissors... Should I start with just a trim along the side of my square, or go for broke and cut right up the middle? ;)

  8. Tommy, I think we both know "who" is going to end up being cranky and needing a nap...

Just don't forget to "Nap DOWN." If you "Nap UP", you'll be in BIG trouble, mister!

  9. Agreed. They are too old, and those carpet squares should be replaced with swiffer cloths getting their groove on AND cleaning some floors. Put that enthusiasm to good use ... thats what I'm talking about !

Have a nap side down kinda weekend Anthony !

  10. I LOVE your Swiffer Square idea, Lisa! Why didn't I think of that?!

Couldn't you totally see that concept being used for a t.v. commercial or print ad... Retro-styled kids "dancing"/scooting around on their Swiffer Squares (cleaning side DOWN) to funky tunes from the 1960s and '70s? You do, of course, realize that if you end up selling this idea to Procter & Gamble, I'll want MY cut of it, right?! ;)
