Lions, Jaguars, and Elephants? Oh, My!

Please, oh please, don't let us run into this guy, tomorrow! His name is Maynard Livingston, and he's the official Park Master & Greeter for both the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park. Ugh... Maybe, we'll luck out and he'll be over at the Wild Animal Park, instead.

Whatever the case, my mom, Tommy and I will have fun at the zoo on Saturday, anyway. The outing was my mom's idea, and it's also her birthday gift to me! She knows that I like elephants (and animals, in general), so she thought that I'd like to go check out the new Elephant Odyssey exhibit that just opened this last May. It's a $45 million, 7-acre addition to the main zoo that features elephants (obviously), lions, jaguars and California condors. The habitat has several pools for the elephants, including one that holds 137, 000 gallons of water and is 7.5 feet deep at its deepest end. That's certainly big enough for a swim, even for an elephant!

On these hot Summer days, I would love to join these guys.
I wonder if Esther is in the pool, somewhere...

Pinky TUSK-adero, taking a relaxing bath.

Lions are so majestically beautiful...
They make me proud to be a Leo.

I've always wanted to drive one of these.

It's probably crazy of us to go on a Saturday in August, what with Summer crowds and all, but it should be a fun family adventure! Then, the following Saturday (A.K.A. my actual birthday), Tommy and I will be going to Disneyland because I'll be getting in FREE! Did you know about that special promotion? They're letting people in for FREE on their birthdays, all this year! But you had to have registered for it by a certain deadline last year. They even aired T.V. commercials about the whole thing. I guess that it sucks to be you, if you didn't take advantage of it... (Hee-hee!)

Have a great weekend, everyone!

  1. Lucky duck! I haven't been to the SD zoo since waaay before we had the kids. It is a gorgeous zoo. Such a cool b-day present from your mom! Did you know I have a mini-collection of elephants? Just sorta happened. They are amazing animals.

Funny, this, that you are going to be in SD, because I *might* maybe be going there tomorrow or Sunday for Tiki Oasis, and if I do, you were going to be my first call! Well, I'll still call you if I end up going, because I think we'd have fun! :)

  2. Love the animal kingdom! When I was in my teen, I even wanted to have a job at the zoo! Best part is the feeding time, not so much of cleaning the poops ;) Hope you have fun darling! I guess you are a leo, since your birthday is coming soon?

    ~Grrreat weekend!

  3. Well, Tikimama... I seem to remember a certain "someone" saying that they were taking me to Tiki Oasis for my birthday present... You wouldn't happen to remember who that was, would you?

Have fun, if you end up going. And don't let your conscience keep you from having a good time. ;)

Yes, you ARE officially in the doghouse.

  4. I AM a Leo, Lenore!

However, my personality traits tend to be truer to the Virgo profile, according to astrology. And I'm technically right on the cusp, anyway.

Btw, for some reason, I CANNOT picture you picking up animal poop at the zoo. You seem waaay too refined for that!

  5. Message from the doghouse: I didn't go. I so wanted to go and with you and for your birthday, but finances prevented it. We'll think up something different! Ummmm...could you refill my water bowl before you go?

  6. I'm a shmuck, Tikimama!

It never even occurred to me that it might have been money-related... I just assumed that you were being lazy, and then blowing the whole thing off at the last minute.

    Forgive me?

  7. I'd love a date with you.:) The ZOO is like heaven to me, hanging out with animals is so exciting. Animals make sense...and make the world a better place.

The SD Zoo would have a hard time getting rid of me, I'd just hide with Mr. Leo.:) Now the snakes (and typing the word makes me cringe) they would need to have no fear of me coming even close to them.

Btw, to answer the question you ask about my kids, I have two girls. They are both married - One lives in Boulder, one just moved back from London, now living in Greensboro, NC.

    Wishing you a lovely week!

  8. That would be a blast to go to the zoo with you, Six! And I would go back there in a heartbeat! I absolutely love animals. In fact, if I were to do any kind of volunteer work, it would be something to help animals. Even snakes... they don't really bother me.

Two daughters, huh? If they turned out anything like you, you should be proud! I hope they don't live too far from you. My mom lives in the same city only a few blocks away. It's nice. We used to have a very tumultuous relationship and didn't speak for years, but have since made peace. In fact, we now get along better than we ever did in the past! And since we live so close to each other, we get together about once a week. I truly consider it "quality time".

I hope that Portia and HER children are doing well. :)

Got somethin' to say?
